Nick of Time meets Non-Stop, but not as good.
The premise is taken right out of Nick of Time – baddies try to blackmail a civilian to do their dirty work. Add Liam Neeson on mission, riding a mode of transport a la Non-Stop, and you have The Commuter.
Michael MacCauley (Liam Neeson) is taking his usual train commute home, when he is approached by Joanna (Vera Farmiga – but I totally mistook her for Kristin Wiig in this!) with an extraordinary proposition.
The first half starts off full promise, but during the second half it crumbles away and much of the intrigue is lost. As the story rolls on it becomes far too implausible to be given any serious attention. It remains fairly entertaining for the most part, but certainly isn’t the gripping viewing I think they were aiming for.
The Commuter premieres in Sweden on 12 January 2018.
