3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)

Good, but nowhere near as good as The Room.

You probably don’t need to have seen The Room for The Disaster Artist to make sense, but if you haven’t seen The Room already (known as one of the worst movies of all time), see it first anyway! You’ll thank me later.

The Disaster Artist is based on the true story of Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) and Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) – two budding actors who are trying to make it big and live out their dreams of becoming movie stars. It’s based upon a book by Greg Sestero (who plays Mark in The Room).

James Franco is just perfect as Tommy Wiseau. After the first few minutes of getting used to him in the role, you can just switch off and forget that this isn’t the actual guy. He does an incredible job, considering Wiseau is such a unique character. It’s great to see his amazing talent put to good use and not wasted on duds like 2016’s Why Him?

The overall story is fairly simple and straightforward, in a way it’s a shame that you already know how it ends to begin with. Most of the funny parts are from The Room dialogue as they act out the scenes.

The Disaster Artist premieres in Sweden on 9 February 2018.
